The Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara, has thanked citizens for electing him once again in his New Year’s message
“Ivory Coast has chosen peace, dialogue, and responsibility,” Ouattara said. “Since 2011, it has demonstrated its ability to overcome trials and move forward united, with respect for institutions. I am deeply grateful for this.”
He said these milestones once again demonstrated the democratic maturity of our nation and the strong commitment of our fellow citizens to peace, stability, and the development of our country.
Landslide Victory
Ouattara, who has been in the office since 2010, was re-elected for a fourth term with around 90 percent of the vote in October’s presidential election.
Recently, his Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) party won 197 of the 255 seats in the National Assembly, according to provisional results announced Monday.
Priorities in 2026
Outlining his government’s priorities for 2026, Ouattara said security and migration would be two key areas to focus on.
“Security remains a key pillar of our action amid regional crises, terrorist threats, and the challenges posed by significant migratory inflows,” he said.
He added that actions against money laundering and terror financing would be intensified.
Ouattara also congratulated the national football team for their dramatic win over Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and finishing as group leaders to advance to the Round of 16.
“I extend my warmest encouragements and best wishes for success to our Elephants football team competing in the Africa Cup of Nations” .
