The Ghanian President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama , has said Africa must determine its destiny. He stated this in Accra while addressing cross sections of African delegates who gathered for the Pan-African Progressive Forces Conference.
“Ghana has always been the heartbeat of the Pan African agenda An Africa that owns its own development, mobilises its resources and believes in its collective strength. Africans will determine Africa’s destiny .So let this anniversary ignite in us a renewed sense of purpose, “Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama said.
Addressing Challenges Ahead
Mahama also emphasised that the fight for Africa’s dignity includes climate change action, stating that the region demands and deserves both development and sustainability.
“Africa contributes the least to global emissions, and yet suffers disproportionately from drought, cyclones, rising temperatures and flooding. We must therefore approach global climate negotiations not as passive recipients of aid, but as equal partners demanding fairness, investment and respect for our right to develop.” he added.
Understanding the Concept of Pan Africanism
The Pan-African Congresses aim to redefine Pan-Africanism in a changing world by strengthening institutions like the African Union, promoting Pan-African education and media, advocating for local resource ownership and climate-conscious development, and collaborating with the Global South to support a multipolar world order.
These goals build on the legacy of earlier Pan-African Congresses, including the pivotal 1945 Manchester Congress that championed decolonisation and the end of imperialism.
