Zimbabwe House Speaker and Belarusian President
Zimbabwe and Belarus are discussing a trilateral seaport project .
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko suggested to Zimbabwean Senate Speaker Mabel Memory Chinomona that they consider a trilateral seaport project with Mozambique.
In the words of Lukashenko
“We really need a base on the African coast, in the southeast. This means that we must work together with Zimbabwe on the construction of a port in your neighbouring country, Mozambique.

The Belarusian leaders was of the opinion that , If we were to implement this idea together with Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and in this case we can do so and restore rail service through your neighbour, it is a short distance to Zimbabwe, your country would become a good hub for the necessary products not only from Belarus to South Africa, Southeast Africa, and southern Africa, but also for goods from other countries, primarily Russia,“
The head of state added that Minsk will do everything within the framework of the roadmap between them, urging politicians from both countries to keep to the implementation of the agreements.
“We have a lot of work to do to achieve a trade turnover of over $100 million in a couple of years, as we agreed,” Lukashenko highlighted.
Zimbabwean parliamentarians participated in sessions at the Council of the Republic on February 18 and signed a Memorandum of Co-operation, establishing a framework for enhanced dialogue between the two nations.
The delegation will stay in Belarus until February 22. The agenda includes meetings in both closed and open formats.
