Zambia and Chinese Leaders

The Tanzanian – Zambian Railway Authority (TAZARA) has received $1.4 billion investment from China to revitalised the railway link from Dar-es Salam in east Tanzania with the town of Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia’s Central Province.
The Railway Revitalisation Project
The agreement for the railway revitalisation project was discussed between the Chinese Premier Li Qiang and President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema in Lusaka.
The railway was built in 1970s to link Dar es Salaam in east Tanzania with the town of Kapiri Mposh .
Hichilema said the railway project was a ‘a lifeline for multi-industry trade’ and would create ‘jobs and boosts capacity to 2.4m+ tonnes’.
China has been heavily invested in mining in Zambia, one of the world’s top copper producers – a metal essential to the production of electronic devices.
Li arrived in the Zambian capital on Wednesday, becoming the first Chinese premier to visit the nation in 28 years.
