Morrocco, one of the African countries at the 2026 World Cup tournament has made a good start with a 1-1 draw with Brazil.
The Atlas Lions took the lead through Ismael Saibari during their Group C opener before Brazilian star Vinicius Junior levelled the score to earn a point for his side.
Morocco will next face group leaders Scotland before taking on Haiti in their remaining group-stage fixtures.
Earlier South Africa lost its first match against Mexico.
Moroccan Fans Upbeat
Moroccan fans remain upbeat about their national team’s chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a spirited 1-1 draw with five-time champions Brazil at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Footage shows supporters watching the match on a giant screen at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat. Celebrations erupt after Morocco’s opening goal, with fans cheering and waving flags.
“We trusted our national team and expected a strong performance. With this style of play, they can go far, maybe even clinch the title,” Fatima Al-Zahra, a fan, said.
Supporter Yahya Marzouk described Brazil as a ‘tough and formidable opponent’, but stressed that the Atlas Lions had been progressing ‘step by step’.
“It was an honorable result and truly an outstanding performance. It is encouraging, hopefully this is only the beginning, the best is still to come,” another added.

The 2026 is hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition of the tournament to feature an expanded 48-team format. The competition runs until July 19.
