The Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria, Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in faith and hope, even amid challenges, as Christians mark Good Friday.
Good Friday is a day of reflection on the passion and death of Jesus Christ.
In an exclusive interview, Archbishop Kaigama explained that Good Friday and the Easter season remind Christians that Christ’s death and resurrection signify ultimate victory over sin, death, and evil. “Even in the midst of hardships, our faith in Christ assures victory,” he said.
The Archbishop emphasised lessons from Christ’s life, urging believers to resist evil, maintain unwavering faith in God, and strive to be Christ-like in daily life.
“We are called to shine as the light of the world, to live with humility, love, and service toward others,” he added.

Highlighting the role of youth, he noted Nigeria’s dynamic young population and encouraged resilience despite limited opportunities. “The government must create an environment for young people to thrive, but the youth must also channel their talents positively to transform society,” he noted.
On love and charity, Archbishop Kaigama urged Nigerians to embrace unconditional care and service. He explained that humility and selfless giving should guide both leaders and citizens, helping reduce crime and social injustice.
“Easter teaches us to love without boundaries and serve others sincerely,” he explained.
The Archbishop also reflected on the significance of the Lenten season, describing it as a time for repentance, generosity, and self-examination. He called on Nigerians to develop a spirit of giving and concern for others, regardless of religion, tribe, or social status.
Regarding governance, Archbishop Kaigama urged all stakeholders to ensure free, fair, and credible elections, while emphasising justice, integrity, and accountability in the process. He stressed that orderly civic behaviour and ethical leadership were essential for national development.
Concluding his message, the Archbishop prayed that the victory of Christ over sin and evil would also be a victory for humanity.
“Let us overcome evil with kindness, embrace one another in love, and let the spirit of Easter guide our lives. May this celebration be blessed, memorable, and transformative,” he said.
