Russia -Madagascar Talks
Madagascar has received aid support from Russia over the devastating effect of Cyclone in the Southern African coast.
The aid included a hardware to deliver humanitarian aid to the affected areas, as well as to support other rescue operations.
A Russian plane landed at the Madagascar local airport and workers unloading cargo from the aircraft’s cargo compartment.
According to a statement from the Russian embassy in Madagascar , “Russia has supplied Madagascar with technical equipment, including a Mi-8 helicopter, trucks, and other devices. These resources will be used to deliver humanitarian aid to the affected areas, as well as to support other rescue operations,”
The diplomatic mission added that food and other humanitarian supplies are also expected to be delivered in the coming days.
In early February, Madagascar was hit by a powerful cyclone, Fitiya. Later, cyclone Gezani reached the island nation, affecting 423,986 people as of February 16.
Russia holds talks With Madagascar
The supply of the humanitarian aids followed Russian President Vladimir Putin talks with President of Madagascar Michael Randrianirina in Moscow.
The leaders also discussed the development of Russian–Madagascar relations, as well as current regional and international issues.
Condolences
Russian President Vladimir Putin used the meeting to express his condolences for the victims of the devastating cyclones.
The Russian leader also noted that Moscow and Antananarivo have good prospects for further strengthening bilateral ties.
Areas of Interests
The Russian leader said “Regarding politics, recently a delegation from Madagascar has visited Russia. I hope that today we can discuss all the issues of mutual interest. I would like to point out that we have many interesting areas of interaction, including agriculture, geological exploration, energy, health care, and education.
In the word of the Madagascan President , Randrianirina , the Madagascan government intends to increase co-operation with Russia in all areas.
“We are ready to work with you and are open to co-operation. We are ready to move on to a new stage. We have been working for 55 years and are now ready to develop new partnerships with the Russian Federation,” the republic’s president said.
In early February, Madagascar was hit by a powerful cyclone Fytia. Later, cyclone Gezani reached the island nation, affecting 426,906 people as of February 16.
On February 18, Russia sent technical assistance to the republic, including a Mi-8 helicopter, trucks, and other equipment to help overcome the consequences of the cyclones.
