
South Africans rallied across the streets of Cape Town, marching towards Parliament to demand an end to ‘genocide’ in Gaza.
The Pro Palestinians protesters carrying Palestinian flags and placards with slogans including ‘If you’re silent, you’re complicit, stop the genocide’ and ‘Don’t feel bad, do something.’ “You cannot be watching a live stream genocide, with children being massacred, bombed to pieces, babies being torn from the wombs of their mothers, not to have a feeling,” a protester said.
She appealed to the South African military to stop the genocide in Gaza
Another marcher stressed the importance of global solidarity, saying: “We can’t be on the front lines to assist the people of Palestine, but at least we can raise our voices and show our support in these marches.”
Memorandum of Demands
The demonstration, organised by the Al-Quds Foundation, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, the Muslim Judicial Council, and others, reportedly culminated in the handing over of a memorandum of demands to a government representative.

South Africa has played a prominent role in international legal efforts, filing a case at the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of violating the Genocide Convention. The ICJ ordered provisional measures in January, directing Israel to prevent acts of genocide.
Denial
Israel has strongly denied ‘genocide’ or ‘famine’ in Gaza and maintained that “unauthorised attempts to breach the blockade are dangerous, unlawful and undermine ongoing humanitarian efforts.”
Israel-Hamas war in Gaza
The Israel-Hamas war in Gaza erupted on October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian group launched an attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people and kidnapping more than 200 others, according to Israeli officials.
Israel’s subsequent military operations in Gaza have killed more than 65,549 people and injured over 167,518 others at the time of publication, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
