The Nigerian government cancelled the 65th Independence Anniversary parade, on 1st October.
Director Press, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Segun Imohiosen confirmed the cancellation in a statement.
He said the cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, noting that government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect.
Independence Celebrations Programmes
The programmes slated for the independence celebrations are National broadcast by the President, inauguration of the National Theater Complex in Lagos, the Launch of the National Value Charter and final of the Independence essay competition and awards.
The Federal Government appreciates the understanding, support and cooperation of all Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community and invited guests urging Nigerians to support the reforms of President Bola Tinubu, in making Nigeria a greater nation.
