Gabonese President Wins Majority Seats In Parliament

The Gabonese President, Brice Oligui Nguema has won the Parliamentary Majority seat.

President Nguema’s party, Democratic Union of Builders (UDB) victory was secured after a second round of the parliamentary vote.

The party won 55 seats in the 145-seat national assembly.

The Gabonese Democratic Party, or PDG, the party of former president Ali Bongo Ondimba, won three seats. The UDB and PDG, running on a joint ticket in some constituencies, won four seats

Gabon National Electoral body said the run-off vote was conducted in only 77 constituencies where no candidate won an absolute majority.

The contest is mostly between UDB and the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), the party of former president Ali Bongo, which won three seats in the first round.

The victory is a huge boost to Nguema, who won a presidential election in April.

The exercise concludes a political transition in Gabon.
