Early Life and Education Born: May 3, 1946, in Sudan, Mo Ibrahim grew up in a modest family that valued education. He later moved to Alexandria, Egypt, where he pursued his studies.
Education:
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Alexandria University, followed by a Master’s in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Bradford, and a Ph.D. in Mobile Communications from the University of Birmingham.
Career Achievements Celtel International: In 1998, Ibrahim founded Celtel, which became one of Africa’s leading mobile phone companies, providing services to millions across the continent. He sold Celtel in 2005 for $3.4 billion.
Mo Ibrahim Foundation: Established in 2006, the foundation aims to promote good governance and leadership in Africa. It is known for the Ibrahim Index of African Governance, which evaluates the performance of African nations, and the Mo Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership, which awards $5 million to former African heads of state who have demonstrated good governance.
Philanthropy and Recognition Ibrahim is committed to philanthropy and has pledged to give away at least half of his wealth.
