FIFA World 2026: African Teams Receives 121.5 Million USD -

Ten African Teams at the on-going FIFA World Cup 2026 have received 121.5 Million USD from the tournament.

The countries National football teams are from Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Tunisia, Egypt, Morroco, Algeria, Cape Verde, and DR Congo.

Breakdown

Teams finishing between fifth and eighth place each, like Morocco, received KSh 2.46 billion (USD 19 million). Those who exited in the Round of 16, as Egypt did, earned KSh 1.94 billion (USD 15 million) each.

The seven African sides eliminated in the Round of 32 each collected KSh 1.42 billion (USD 11 million). Tunisia, which went out in the group stage alongside the other bottom-placed teams ranked 33rd to 48th, received KSh 1.16 billion (USD 9 million).

This was in addition to the USD 1.5 million to cover preparation costs each team was given before the tournament.

Morocco’s Outstanding Performance

Morocco reached World Cup 2026 quarter-finals while Cape Verde made it to the knockout rounds on their debut.

Morocco was the standout African side, progressing further than any other team from the continent before their quarter-final exit at the hands of France.

Egypt had the next deepest run, reaching the Round of 16, where they fell to Argentina 3-2 in a controversial circumstance.

Seven other African nations made it out of the group stage but were unable to advance beyond the Round of 32. DR Congo lost 2-1 to England, Senegal were beaten 3-2 by Belgium, and Ghana went down 1-0 to Colombia. South Africa lost 1-0 to Canada, Cape Verde were eliminated by Argentina 3-2, Algeria fell 2-0 to Switzerland, and Ivory Coast lost 2-1 to Norway.

Tunisia was the only African representative to exit in the group stage, having lost all three of their matches.

FIFA’s Prize Money Structure

Overall, FIFA’s prize money structure for the 2026 tournament rewarded teams based on how far they progressed. The champions received KSh 6.47 billion (USD 50 million), while the runners-up took home KSh 4.27 billion (USD 33 million). Third place earned KSh 3.75 billion (USD 29 million) and fourth place KSh 3.49 billion (USD 27 million).
