EGYPTIAN NATIONAL TEAM HONOURED
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has honoured the Egyptian National team – The Pharaohs, through a reception for Egypt’s national football team and coaching staff in New Alamein City for their historic World Cup campaign.

“You made us proud, truly proud. We cherish you and everything you have accomplished,” El-Sisi said, praising the team’s performance throughout the tournament.
“You brought joy to everyone’s hearts because your performance was characterized by competitiveness, competence, merit, and above all, high values,” he added.
Egypt’s Vast Footballing Talents
El-Sisi also pointed to Egypt’s vast pool of footballing talent, saying the country’s population should be capable of producing many more stars.
“It is inconceivable that among 120 million people, there aren’t many who resemble Mohamed Salah, Shobier, and all the players standing before me right now. In fact, there are many.”
Egypt’s Historic Run
Egypt’s historic run ended with a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 16 on July 7.
It was Egypt’s fourth World Cup appearance and the first time the Pharaohs had reached the knockout stages.
The 2026 World Cup is the first to feature 48 teams and the first jointly hosted by three countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The tournament runs from June 11 to July 19, with 104 matches staged across 16 host cities in North America.
