The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa has advised Nigerians residing in the country to remain cautious and vigilant ahead of planned protests targeting foreign nationals.
NICASA President-General, Frank Onyekwelu, gave the warning on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.
He said the advisory is intended to alert Nigerians living in Gauteng Province about the protests scheduled to hold from April 27 to April 29.

Onyekwelu noted that the tone and history of such demonstrations make it necessary for Nigerians to take precautionary measures.
“In view of the nature and underlying sentiments associated with such protests and considering past experiences, we strongly advise our community to exercise maximum caution and vigilance during this period,” he said.
Onyekwelu advised Nigerians to minimise unnecessary travel, particularly in affected areas, protest zones and city centres.
He also urged business owners to consider temporarily closing shops, offices and other business premises during the period to safeguard lives and property.
“Stay away from protest routes, large gatherings and areas where tensions may escalate.
“As much as possible, remain indoors, monitor credible news sources and follow updates from NICASA and relevant authorities,” he said.
He further advised Nigerians to maintain communication with family members and community leaders, and to report suspicious activities promptly.
Onyekwelu urged members of the community to remain law-abiding, avoid confrontations and cooperate with local law enforcement authorities.
He reiterated NICASA’s commitment to monitoring the situation and engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of Nigerians in the country.
He added that updates and further guidance would be communicated as events unfold, assuring that the safety of members remained a top priority.
