1st position Winner of Argungu fishing festival 2026

The Winners of the Argungu International Fishing Festival have been awarded car and cash gifts from the Kebbi state government at the grand finale of the 61st edition of the event attended by the Nigerian President and Tourists across Nigeria and the world.
Fishing Winners
In the keenly contested fishing competition, Abubakar Usman from Maiyama emerged winner after catching a massive 59-kilogram fish.
He was rewarded with two vehicles donated by the Kebbi State Government and WACOT Rice, along with a cash prize of one million naira.
Abdullahi Garba from Argungu secured second place and received a car, N700,000, and a Hajj{pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia) seat.
Rabiu Dauda and Danlaso Kankani emerged third place winners with 33kg fish each. Cash gifts of N200, 000 and a motorcycle were presented to the winners.
The cars donated were made in Nigeria automobiles as part of effort to promote the local auto mobile industry.

The event ended in Kebbi State, drawing international attention as one of the Africa’s and Nigerian most enduring cultural and tourism events.
The four-day celebration culminated in a dramatic grand fishing competition, where hundreds of fishermen plunged into the historic Matan Fada River to compete for top honours.
Beyond the fishing contest, the festival featured a vibrant array of traditional activities including durbar displays, canoe racing, diving contests, swimming and water relay competitions, as well as horse racing and polo matches.
The colourful performances showcased Nigeria’s cultural diversity and highlighted the country’s potential for cultural tourism development.
This year’s Argungu Festival has once again reinforced its position as a major cultural event capable of boosting domestic tourism, strengthening national cohesion and projecting Nigeria’s heritage to the world.
Huge Political Gains
The Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Kebbi state Governor have used the Argungu International fishing festival to score political gains, reeling out the successes of both the federal and state government. it was indeed a breath of fresh air for good news coming from the Northwest of Nigeria.
The region has been battling with insurgency, banditry , cattle rustlings and other criminal activities. this has affected the Argungu fishing festival for over six years.
Ahead of the grand finale , the President inaugurated the Kebbi state secretariat and other projects constructed by the kebbi state government. He instructively reeled out the score card of the administration. president Tinubu assured that the fight against banditry and other criminality in the region will be won.
